No. 4 Pittsburgh 57, Washington St. 43

NEWARK, N.J. — Sam Young scored 15 points and Levance Fields added 14 to lead Pittsburgh over Washington State in the championship game of the Legends Classic. The Panthers (7-0) were able to win despite shooting 35.4 percent from the field (17-of-48). They did it with solid inside defense over the final five minutes, holding the Cougars (5-1) to three points in that span. Pittsburgh forced 15 turnovers and turned them into 17 points.

No. 2 Connecticut 88, Bryant 58

HARTFORD, Conn. — Hasheem Thabeet had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Connecticut gave coach Jim Calhoun his 780th career win. The victory moved Calhoun into a tie with Lou Henson and Lute Olson for eighth on the all-time list. Thabeet led five Huskies in double figures. Craig Austrie scored 15, A.J. Price and Jeff Adrien each had 14, and Jerome Dyson added 11 for UConn (6-0). Cecil Gresham scored 15 of his 19 points in the first half for Bryant (1-3).

No. 22 Miami 79, Stetson 65

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Cyrus McGowan scored 14 points to lead Miami to the win. Dwayne Collins and Jack McClinton had 12 points apiece for the Hurricanes (4-1). James Dews finished with 10. McClinton also had six assists. Garfield Blair led Stetson (2-3) with 25 points.

No. 13 UCLA 89, Florida International 54

LOS ANGELES — Freshman guard Jrue Holiday scored 20 points to lead UCLA over Florida International. Holiday made all eight of his field goal attempts and three of four free throws. Senior point guard Darren Collison added 11 points, seven assists and four rebounds for UCLA (4-1). Michael Roll made all three of his 3-point attempts and finished with 11 points. UCLA held a 33-20 rebounding advantage and shot better than 65 percent from the field.
