NORTH LIMA — When it comes to protecting your home, your car, your family or yourself, the most important thing you can do is to pay attention to your surroundings, explained Beaver Township Police Lt. Kal Adorja.
Addressing members of the Beaver Township Crime Watch group last week, Adorjan advised them to be aware of the people around them and to pay attention to anything that seems out of place.
“We’ve heard it time and time again but we need to pay attention to it and make it part of our daily routine,” he said. “Be aware of what’s going on around you, people coming and going, vehicles, everything. If something seems wrong or out of place or out of the ordinary don’t be afraid to mention it, and never be afraid or concerned about calling the police to have it checked out.”
Adorjan, a veteran police officer and self-defense instructor, presented the personal safety program to the crime watch group in the activity center of Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road. The group typically meets at the activity center to discuss local issues and concerns and learn about ways to fight crime in their own neighborhoods.
It periodically hosts speakers that focus on various topics involving personal and household safety and steps that they can take to avoid becoming victims.
