Youth Theatre presents ‘Cinderella Brunch’

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Playhouse may be closed for the winter, but its Youth Theatre will hold its annual “Cinderella Brunch.” Faced with potentially large heating bills, the financially strapped Playhouse recently decided to shut its doors until spring, postponing all scheduled productions.

But the Youth Theatre decided to go ahead with the “Cinderella Brunch” at a new location. The three shows will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and Dec. 13 and 20, in the Great Hall at Trinity United Methodist Church, 30 W. Front St.

“The Playhouse board is going all out with decorations and a lovely meal, so it will be a nice holiday event,” said Patricia Fagan, Youth Theatre director. “We don’t make a ton of money from this, but the intent has always been to provide an affordable opportunity for children and their families, especially this year. Also, I feel we must do everything possible to keep the Playhouse name ‘out there’ until the reopening in early spring.”

The brunch will allow audience members to meet and talk with “Cinderella” characters. Young ladies may try on the famous slipper and can dance with the Prince, if they choose. Santa Claus will visit, and each child will get a coloring book.

The brunch includes scrambled eggs, sausage, french toast fingers with syrup, jeweled fruit kebobs, assorted fruit breads, muffins, coffee, milk and holiday punch. Reservations are necessary. Call (330) 788-8739.

‘Smoke on Mountain’ sequel at Salem theater

Following up last year’s “Smoke on the Mountain,” The sequel takes place on Christmas Eve 1941, 17 days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and 3 1/2 after the original story.

The show includes dozens of songs. The cast includes Mark Frost, Cheryl Kekel, Gary Kekel, Amanda Frost, Josh Lewis, Len Derico, Connie Baer, Connie Price, Andy Cowan, Carolyn Saunders and Kari Lankford.

Performances will be 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Dec. 12 and 13; 2 p.m. next Sunday and 14; and 7 p.m. Dec. 7. Call the box office at (330) 332-9688.

Monday Musical plans collection before show

The 7 p.m. show will feature Christmas music and a salute to Boone’s late mother-in-law, Rosemary Clooney. Joining Boone on stage will be the Boardman High School Chorale. The Boardman Singers will perform before the show. For tickets, call (330) 743-2717.
