YOUNGSTOWN — Curtis Jackson showed up at St. Elizabeth Health Center around 3 a.m. Friday, shot in the right shoulder, police said. Later, a 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass with roughly 13 bullet holes in it was found abandoned in the hospital parking lot.

Jackson, 33, of Forestview Avenue, told police he had been a passenger in an Oldsmobile traveling on Albert Street when a silver Dodge Intrepid pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire. The shooter reportedly wore a black mask. Jackson said he was driven to the hospital in the Oldsmobile by a man he knows as Bob, who didn’t remain. Jackson’s condition wasn’t immediately available.

OSHP investigates death

WARREN — Ohio State Highway Patrol authorities are investigating a one-car accident that took the life of a 55-year-old city man.

According to police, Douglas R. Williams of Draper Street was traveling on state Route 82 early Friday when he lost control of his 1999 Ford Taurus, crossed the median and landed in a ditch.

An OSHP representative said it was later determined that the cause of death was a heart condition, not the accident.

Further investigation will be conducted by the highway patrol and the Trumbull County Coroner’s Office.

Mercer court delivers terms

MERCER, Pa. — Judges in Mercer County Common Pleas Court earlier this week sentenced a Mahoning County man to jail and a Trumbull County man to a correctional institute.

John Zipay, 33, of South Raccoon Road, Youngstown, received six to 12 months in Mercer County Jail followed by four years’ probation for corruption of minors, a misdemeanor. In August or September 2006, he fondled a 6-year-old girl in Sharpsville.

Bernard Owens, 38, of Wick Street, Warren, was sentenced to three to 36 months in the state correctional institute for felony criminal trespass, and resisting arrest and possession of cocaine, both misdemeanors. On March 7 this year, he illegally entered a residence on South Oakland Avenue, Sharon. He also possessed cocaine and fled from state parole agents and Sharon Police officers when they tried to arrest him.

Ministry offers free goods

GIRARD — Our Way Home Christian Fellowship, 429 Ohio Ave., is offering free hats and gloves to those who need them from noon to 2 p.m. next Saturday. The ministry is located just off Mosier Road in Girard’s Parkwood area.

Those attending also are invited to the ministry’s food pantry and will be able to take home whatever is available.

3 hurt in one-car crash

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Three men were injured in a one-car accident, state police in New Castle reported.

Police said Patrick Sean Hughes, 21, of Volant, was driving on state Route 956 at 3:20 a.m. Thursday when he lost control of his car, struck a mailbox, crossed back over the road, hit a utility pole, then traveled down an embankment, across a field and into a creek.

Police said the driver and two passengers, Ronald Paul Cramer, 20, of New Wilmington, and Jeremy Ray Herron, 21, of New Wilmington, were injured. Hughes and Cramer were taken to Jameson Hospital in New Castle. The hospital would not report their conditions Friday.

Police said Herron also was also injured, but was not taken to a hospital.

None of the men was wearing a seat belt, state police said.

Party-goer stabbed

FARRELL, Pa. — A boy was stabbed at a party on Buhl Terrace, Southwest Mercer County Regional Police reported.

Police said they were called to the 1300 block of Buhl at 1 a.m. Thursday for a fight in progress.

They found an injured juvenile there who had been stabbed by another juvenile after a fight at the party, police said.

The injured boy was treated at Farrell U.P.M.C. The suspect was taken to a juvenile center.

Tax reminders mailed

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Reminder notices are being mailed to people who haven’t paid 2008 property taxes, the Lawrence County Treasurer’s Office says.

Any properties not current by Dec. 31 will be placed on file with the Tax Claim Bureau, and property owners will incur additional costs, the treasurer’s office said.
