Jackson Township has new police chief

NORTH JACKSON — Trustees have sworn in Kenneth P. Frost as new police chief of the Jackson Township Police Department.

Frost, of Boardman, will replace Orrin Hill, who has served more than 20 years with the department, much of that time as chief. Frost’s annual salary will be about $41,000.

Frost is a 1971 Austintown Fitch High School graduate who began his law-enforcement career in 1978 as a reserve deputy with the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department. He served about four years in that capacity before becoming a reserve officer for the Beaver Township Police Department.

He became a full-time Beaver Township officer in 1985, moved through the ranks, and was promoted in 2005 to detective/lieutenant. He retired from the department in May.

Frost said his main objectives for the township are to establish a neighborhood-watch program, bring together the community, police department and schools, meet with business people, have a juvenile resource officer, start a detective division and implement a program to check on the welfare of the elderly.

The department has about 20 reserve as well as full- and part-time officers.

Frost has a wife, Holly, and daughter, Kristy.
