Firefighters kept busy with South Side fires


YOUNGSTOWN — A tow truck was unable to remove two cars from inside a burning garage at 441 Almyra Ave. on the South Side because the roof had collapsed Sunday afternoon, the fire department said.

The structure was engulfed when firefighters around 1 p.m. and flames spread to the vacant house. Damage was set at $22,000 and demolition requested. The cause is under investigation.

Around 8:15 p.m. Sunday, firefighters were sent to 926 W. LaClede Ave., also on the South Side. Damage to the vacant house was set at $11,000 and demolition requested. The cause also is under investigation.
