MISSOURI VALLEY Saturday’s other games

S. Illinois 17, Illinois St. 10, OT

NORMAL, Ill. — Chris Dieker threw a 29-yard touchdown pass in overtime to lead Southern Illinois in clinching the Missouri Valley championship. Minutes after the loss, Illinois State coach Denver Johnson announced his resignation from the Redbirds (3-8, 2-6 MVFC), who he’s coached for the last nine seasons. Neither team scored in the first quarter, and Kyle Dougherty ended the scoring drought at the 11:15 mark in the second quarter by converting a 52-yard field goal attempt for the Salukis (9-2, 7-1 MVFC).

N. Iowa 34, S. Utah 24

CEDAR CITY, Utah — Jamar Thompson returned a fumble 32 yards for the decisive touchdown. Thompson stood up Southern Utah’s Kenny Apilli in the backfield, stripped the ball, and took it to the end zone to give the Panthers (10-2) a two-touchdown lead with 6:49 left in the third quarter. Corey Lewis rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns for Northern Iowa, ranked fourth in last week’s Football Championship Subdivision poll. Southern Utah (4-7) was led by Cody Stone, who completed 20 of 33 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns. Tysson Poots — who finished with nine catches for 138 yards — caught both scoring passes.

Missouri St. 27, Indiana St. 24, OT

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Cody Kirby tied the game with a touchdown pass on the final play of regulation and scored the winning touchdown on a 19-yard run in overtime, handing Indiana State its second straight winless season. The Sycamores (0-12, 0-8) Missouri Valley) suffered their 26th straight loss over three seasons, despite a career-high 237 yards rushing and two touchdowns by Darrius Gates. Gates’ second touchdown tied the game at 14 early in the fourth quarter, then a 1-yard TD run by Ryan Roberts put Indiana state ahead 21-14 with 46 seconds left. But Missouri State (4-7, 3-5) came right back and scored the tying touchdown on Kirby’s 19-yard TD pass to Chris Geisz on the final play of regulation.
