Game notes: The Penguins are looking to rebound from their season-opening loss to Kent State. The Penguins didn’t play well in the 95-58 defeat at Kent. They shot just 33 percent from the floor and committed 29 turnovers. First-year head coach Martin was disappointed in the team’s defensive effort as well as the turnovers. Freshman point guard Macey Nortey shared team-high honors with 13 points and two steals in 36 minutes. She was the only Penguin to play more than 25 minutes. Junior Kaitlyn March also scored 13 points, four more than she had in her first two seasons with the Penguins. The Bulls have not played outside their home city in their first two games, losing to city rival Canisius 69-56 and at home to St. Bonaventure 77-58. Sophomore forward Jessica Fortman is averaging a double-double in her first two games.

The series: Youngstown State holds a 12-9 edge in the overall series, but the Bulls won the last meeting in Buffalo 62-53 in November of 2007 in both school’s season opener. The two teams were former rivals in the Mid-Continent Conference and met three times in the conference tournament. Buffalo is looking for its first win at Beeghly Center since the 2002 season.

Up next: The Penguins will remain at home on Saturday night when they play host to Niagara in a 5:15 p.m. tip-off. The YSU men will host Allegheny in the second part of the doubleheader at 7:35.
