MEN

Pitt-Bradford 81, Westminster 74

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Junior forward Ryne Murray led the Titans with 22 points on 7-for-17 shooting from the floor while also dishing out a game-high four assists. Senior guard David Richards (New Castle) bucketed 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Titans, while freshman guard Cameron McCleary (Newton Falls) added a career-high 13 points. Freshman forward Rob Briggs reached double figures in rebounds for a second straight game as he snared a career-high 11 boards to go with six points. Aaron Stang led the Panthers (1-1) with 19 points as one of four Pitt-Bradford players with double-digit points. The Titans’ largest lead of the game was a six-point, 20-14 showing with 8:37 left in the first half. After trailing 37-29 at halftime, and a deficit as many as 11 points in the second half, Westminster trailed by four points with 55 seconds left after Murray drained one of his three 3-pointers. That was as close as the Titans (0-2) would get in the waning moments.

WOMEN

Daemen 61, Grove City 50

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Junior forward Laura Miller paced Grove City (0-1) with 14 points while junior forward Krista Beechy added a dozen points. Sophomore Christine Slater tossed in 10 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Grove City committed only 13 turnovers in the game, including just three in the second half. However, Grove City could not overcome a 19-for-64 (30 percent) shooting effort from the field. Defensively, Grove City forced 26 turnovers and limited Daemen to 32 percent (10 of 31) shooting in the second half. Daemen (3-3) closed the first half on a 7-0 run and led 35-23 at halftime. Grove City had pulled to within 28-23 with 5:29 left in the half on a three-point play by Miller. However, Grove City misfired on its final eight shots of the half. Sarah Bogardus led Daemen with 26 points. Sarah Soroka added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Daemen out-rebounded Grove City 49-36. Daemen opened the season ranked 17th nationally in the NAIA. The teams had never before met.

Marietta 48, Thiel 47

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Marietta erased a two-point halftime deficit to down Thiel (1-1). Senior Amber Bodrick (Cardinal Mooney) and junior Catie Sieber each scored 12 points to lead the ‘Cats. Bodrick also pulled down 15 rebounds to notch her first double-double of the season. Nikki Driscoll led the Pioneers with 11 points. Thiel twice established eight-point advantages in the second half, but each time the Pioneers battled back, eventually taking the lead for good with just over a minute left in the game on a Amanda Carraher 3-pointer. The game ended on a last second Bodrick drive to the hoop. Thiel held a statistical advantage in most categories including blocks (9-3) and rebounds (40-27).
