MRDD approves service contracts

AUSTINTOWN — The Mahoning County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities extended Superintendent Larry Duck’s contract for three years and approved a pay raise for him not to exceed 2 percent per year.

Duck’s current contract expires May 31, 2009. The extension runs from June 1, 2009, through May 31, 2012. His pay increase is based upon a performance evaluation and subject to the board’s financial circumstances at the time. Duck is paid $106,111 per year, officials said.

In other action, the board approved several service contracts for calendar year 2009. They include:

UAdvanced Rehab Management, doing business as Tudor Rehabilitation, $75,000 each for occupational and physical therapy.

UBehavioral Intervention Services, $2,000, behavior management consultation.

UBurdman Group, $225,000, community employment services.

UConsumer Support Services, $288,179, adult day services to CSS clients at the MRDD board’s adult workshops.

UEaster Seals, $74,000, adult day services.

UGateways to Better Living, $25,000 to provide adult day services.

UIron & String Life Enhancement, $576,000, adult day services and transportation.

UMahoning Adult Services Corp. (MASCO), $260,000, client aid program at MRDD Board operated service sites and programs.

UMen’s Garden Club, no fee, for use of the Bev Road greenhouse.

UMorris Financial Group, $1, retainer for insurance brokerage services to seek bids for group health insurance for MRDD employees.

UOakwood Counseling Center, $21,000, psychological counseling and evaluation and assessment services.

UARC of Ohio — Northeast Branch (formerly Mahoning County Council for Retarded Citizens), $6,200, recreational services for MRDD consumers.

UTransit Services, $310,000, supplemental transportation services for MRDD consumers.

UTurning Point Residential, $190,000, adult day services and transportation.

The board approved several contracts with Help Hotline. They are:

U$42,000, guardianship services for MRDD clients.

U$10,000, reimbursement for legal services for indigent MRDD clients.

U$3,600, 24-hour emergency phone and information and referral services.

U$32,240, to oversee a Dual Diagnosis Project for Mahoning County clients who have a dual diagnosis of mental health needs and MRDD needs.

Duck said that the contracts and costs will be incorporated into the 2009 operating budget that the board will review for approval at its Dec. 8 meeting.
