Girard man indicted following explosion

WARREN — Donald F. Shelley, the Girard man accused of stealing scrap metal from a home on Washington Street that led to an explosion Sept. 18, has been indicted on four felony charges.

Shelley, 25, of 426 North Avenue, faces two counts of aggravated arson, one count of vandalism and one count of burglary.

If convicted, he faces up to 24 1/2 years in prison.

The explosion at 824 Washington Ave. leveled that property and damaged at least 50 homes and injured at least four people, police said.

Shelley will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Monday before Judge Peter Kontos in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
