Water system flushing continues in Leetonia

LEETONIA — Village water customers are advised that the water department will be continuing the water distribution system flushing for the next couple of weeks.

Customers may experience low water volume and pressure during the process.

The water department also asks customers to use caution when using water with discoloration because it may cause staining problems.

Leetonia also will be picking up leaves with a machine.

Both the completion of the flushing process and leaf pickup will depend on weather conditions.

New Castle duplex fire

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Firefighters were called to a duplex fire around 1:30 a.m. Saturday at 105 Walnut Street.

The blaze is being linked to six other recent house fires in the city that were ruled arson.

On Nov. 8, five vacant homes were burned. On Nov. 9, another arson occurred.

The houses are all within a five-block radius, including the house on Walnut, officials said.

The duplex on Walnut has been vacant since September, but plans were to make it a rental home. According to officials, firefighters were called to the same house in June.

Police continue to investigate the chain of fires, and no arrests have been made at this time.
