Tillman’s 19 points lead Ohio U. to 19-point win

Bowling Green, Cincinnati and Dayton also posted basketball victories.

ATHENS, Ohio — Jerome Tillman scored 19 points, including 11 in the second half to help Ohio pull away from William and Mary for a 74-55 win Sunday.

The schools changed leads four times in the first half. But Tillman hit a jumper and a 3-pointer just after halftime to break a tie and kick off a 15-4 run that put Ohio (1-0) ahead 45-34 with 13:17 remaining.

William and Mary (0-1) couldn’t get closer than nine the rest of the way and shot just 36 percent in the second half compared to Ohio’s 60.7 percent.

Tommy Freeman scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, Justin Orr added 16 points and Tillman grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bobcats.

Danny Sumner scored 12 points, Quinn McDowell had 11 and Sean McCurdy 10 for the Tribe.

Bowling Green 82, Concordia, St. P. 61.

MINNEAPOLIS — Darryl Clements had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead Bowling Green in the NABC Classic. Brian Moten added 21 points for the Falcons, who went 2-1 on the weekend in the season-opening tournament.

Cincinnati 77, South Dakota 46

CINCINNATI — Yancy Gates scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds and Deonta Vaughn added 12 points for Cincinnati (1-0), which fell behind early but scored 17 straight points to move ahead 25-15. The Bearcats later used a 20-1 second half rally — marked by Vaughn’s 3-pointer and a dunk from Gates in his debut as a true freshman — to put the game out of reach at 63-27. Louie Krogman and Dylan Grimsley each had 12 points for South Dakota. Tyler Cain added eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Dayton 52, Wofford 49

DAYTON — Marcus Johnson scored 17 points, including a dunk off a steal that broke a tie with three minutes remaining. Junior Salters scored 15 points and Tim Johnson had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Wofford (0-1). Chris Wright had 17 points for Dayton (1-0).

Iowa State 79, Wis-Milwaukee 61

AMES, Iowa — Craig Brackins scored 18 points for Iowa State in the conclusion of the World Vision Classic. Diante Garrett scored 17 points and had nine rebounds for Iowa State. Bryan Petersen added 10 points and six assists for the Cyclones (3-0). Ricky Franklin scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds for Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
