Panthers win with Franklin smoking

Wisconsin-Milwaukee faces host Iowa State today in the round-robin phase of the World Vision Classic.

AMES, Iowa — Ricky Franklin’s 3-pointer with two minutes to play gave Wisconsin-Milwaukee the lead after the Panthers clawed their way back from a 24-point halftime deficit to beat UC Davis 81-75 in Saturday’s World Vision Classic.

Franklin scored 18 points to lead Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Tony Boyle and Anthony Hill each added 16.

Joe Harden’s jumper and seven points from Vince Oliver spurred a UC Davis 17-2 scoring drive, giving the Aggies a 51-27 halftime lead.

The Panthers opened the second half with 10 unanswered points. The Panthers inched closer to the Aggies when Franklin’s 3-pointer gave Wisconsin-Milwaukee a 73-71 lead.

With the score tied again at 75, Deion James and Franklin each added a pair of free throws with less than 20 seconds on the clock to seal the victory for the Panthers.

Ryan Silva scored 17 points and Harden had 11 rebounds to lead UC Davis.

The Aggies will face Loyola-Marymount, which has not won a game in this tournament, as the round-robin continues today. The Panthers (2-0) will go on to face host Iowa State.

Illinois St. 69, Wright St. 61

FAIRBORN — Osiris Eldridge scored 15 points and Champ Oguchi had 14 points and 13 rebounds as Illinois State beat Wright State.

Emmanuel Holloway scored 12 points and Lloyd Phillips and Dinma Odiakosa each had 10 for the Redbirds.

Vaughn Duggins and Cooper Land both scored 12 points for Wright State.

Butler beats Drake 58-48

DES MOINES, Iowa — Zach Hahn scored 13 points and Matt Howard added 12 for Butler. Josh Young led Drake with 19 points and Jonathon Cox finished with seven.
