No no-no, but McDonald blanks J-M

JFK rolled past Lordstown in another sectional final.

McDONALD — Kaitlin Rutushin came within a bloop single of tossing a no-hitter, striking out 16 to lead the McDonald High softball team to a 4-0 win over Jackson-Milton in a Division IV sectional final Monday.

Rutushin, who also walked two batters, surrendered a blooper to Cat Keck in the fourth inning.

Jessica Ferraro added two singles and two RBIs for the Blue Devils (19-0), who scored all four runs in the third inning. Cassie Garland added two singles.

McDonald will play East Canton in the district semifinal Thursday at 5:45 p.m. at Lakeview High. The Blue Devils lost to Western Reserve in last year’s district final.

Lindsey Knipp struck out six and walked five for Jackson-Milton.

Warren JFK 11, Lordstown 2

LORDSTOWN — Junior Rachel Pico had 10 strikeouts and gave up four hits in the first five innings before junior Morgan Piacquadio pitched the sixth and seventh in the Div. IV sectional championship.

Sophomore Alex Raeburn had a home run and two singles for three RBIs for JFK (16-4), which plays Sebring in a district semifinal in Cortland Thursday.

Freshman Rachael Ratcliffe had two doubles and a single for three RBIs and senior Jackie Kolovich had three singles and two RBIs for the Eagles.

Briana Sinn and Chelsie Moherman each had two singles for Lordstown (12-5).

Baseball Beachwood 6, Champion 5

EUCLID — Beachwood High scored all of its runs in the middle innings to prevail over Champion, 6-5, in a Div. III district semifinal.

Brad Goldberg worked seven innings, with nine strikeouts to pick up the win. Garrett Mayers and Lee Axelband each hit a double.

Joe Cvengros and losing pitcher Andrew Beachy, who had two RBIs, each hit a triple and double for the Golden Flashes.
