WARREN — The Sean MacBride Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Trumbull County, a national fraternal organization of Irish Catholics, presented scholarship awards to three area high-school seniors on March 8 at its annual St. Patrick’s Day scholarship Mass and breakfast.

The recipients were Daniel Theodore Dray and Patrick Joseph Murphy, both of John F. Kennedy High School, and Heidi Lynn Palipchak of Brookfield High School.

Each of the students received a $1,000 scholarship award for their winning essays on the theme, “Why do so many people want to be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day?” The presentation was made by Warren Mayor Michael O’Brien, who served as master of ceremonies.

On behalf of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, a member of AOH, Jay Bice, division president, presented each of the students with an American flag and a Congressional Certificate of Acknowledgment.

Entertainment included Irish music and a performance by Irish step dancers from Burke’s School of Irish Dance. Completing the event was a traditional Irish breakfast.

The AOH is the oldest ethnic-based charitable organization in the United States and the largest Irish fraternal organization. For more information, contact Bice at (330) 372-1544 or bicewarren@aol.com.
