Firefighter explains injuries to neighbor’s dog

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

YOUNGSTOWN — Firefighter Corey Brown said he had nothing to do with injuries to a neighbor’s dog, and that the injuries were caused by his 28-year-old brother and his 15-year-old son — who were protecting small children.

Brown said his son hit the dog with a baseball bat and his brother fired one shot at the dog on Saturday afternoon.

Fire Chief John J. O’Neill Jr. is looking into the matter and told Brown, 30, to contact the city prosecutor.

Brown’s neighbor, Renee White, told police that when she returned home on Saturday afternoon she noticed that one of her two dogs was injured and laying on a flower bed. White told police that Brown confronted her about her dogs running loose and said he used a baseball bat to hit one, adding that he would kill the dogs.

Brown said White’s statements are untrue.

Police said the injured dog couldn’t get up, possibly because of a broken hip. As of this morning, no charges had been filed.
