Book Fair scheduled to ‘Plant Seed to Read’


YOUNGSTOWN — The Second Annual Book Fair of Youngstown, “Plant the Seed to Read,” will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 5 at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

The Altrusa Club of Youngstown, in partnership will Mill Creek MetroParks, PBS Channels 45 49, and the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, is sponsoring the event. Admission is free.

Activities will include storytellers, cooking demonstrations, craft activities and creative writing exercises. Children’s authors Bender Bender, authors of “Ribbit!: Flip and See Who Froggy Can Be,” and Bobbie Hinman, author of “The Knot Fairy,” will present and sign their books. PBS characters Super Why and Princess Presto, YSU’s Pete the Penguin and the library’s Ready to Read Raccoon will make appearances. The library also will present the “Baby Brilliant” program.

At 11:30 a.m., winners of the 2008 Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest will be announced.

First Book Mahoning Valley will give each child a book. Sign language interpreters will be available. Child-friendly snacks and lunch items will be for sale in the Garden Café.

Because of limited space, no strollers will be permitted in the Davis Center during the event.
