A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman:
POLAND
March 9
Bad checks: A worker with a South Main Street bank told police a McDonald man, 44, deposited checks totaling $1,300 on closed accounts, then withdrew money before the checks could clear.
BOARDMAN
March 13
Auto theft: A Shields Road man reported the theft of his 1992 Buick Century.
Theft: An Angiline Drive man reported a $2,000 landscaping trailer stolen from a McClurg Road business.
Identity theft: A Youngstown woman found out her identity was compromised when she received a call from a detective regarding an arrest related to a theft at a Southern Park Mall store. She told the officer she was never arrested for the crime.
Theft: Police arrested a 17-year-old boy on a theft charge after a men’s wallet was stolen from Spencer Gifts in the Southern Park Mall.
Theft: A $100 DVD player was removed from a vehicle in the 6900 block of Lockwood Boulevard.
Theft: A Paxton Road woman discovered a $5,000, 2-carat diamond ring missing.
Drugs: A Boardman woman, 22, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after police said they found a small bag of suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana pipe in her car.
Theft/criminal damaging: A Youngstown man at a Market Street business found out his vehicle had been broken into. Stolen were a $375 compact-disc player and an 800-watt amplifier.
Arrest: While investigating a suspicious car on Washington Boulevard, officers charged a 24-year-old Boardman man with theft, obstructing official business and possession of drug-abuse instruments. A nearby resident reported a vehicle transmission missing, and the man was wanted on several warrants. Two hypodermic needles were found and he admitted being a heroin addict, the report showed.
March 14
Theft: Someone stole $60 worth of women’s apparel from Family Dollar, 4028 Market St.
Forgery: A 26-year-old New Castle, Pa., woman faced charges of forgery and criminal simulation after a worker for Checksmart, 112 Boardman-Poland Road, alleged she passed a $333.25 altered and fraudulent check.
Theft: Two people stole 50 DVDs from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road, costing the store $1,000.
Arrests: A traffic stop on Shields Road led to the arrest of a Boardman man, 24, wanted on a felony probation-violation charge, as well as a misdemeanor warrant from Struthers charging him with domestic violence after he had been accused in a December situation in which a woman was choked and punched. A 26-year-old Struthers man was charged with obstructing official business when, police said, he provided a false name.
Theft: A man stole a $25 cordless phone from Family Dollar, 4026 South Ave.
Theft: A Poland woman reported the theft of a bank containing money from her vehicle as it was being repaired at a Market Street business.
Burglary: Someone used a key to gain entry to a residence in the 300 block of Mathews Road. A metal security bar to a sliding-glass door was missing.
Theft: A motorist pumped $87 worth of gasoline and drove from a Shell True North station, 1510 Boardman-Canfield Road, without paying.
Recovered property: Officers found a stolen 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass in the 300 block of Shields Road.
Criminal mischief: A Sugarcane Drive woman reported damage to her lawn and mailbox.
Theft: A man claiming to have forgotten his wallet pumped $15 worth of gasoline but failed to return to the Get Go station, 480 Boardman-Canfield Road, to pay as promised.
Drugs: While investigating suspicious activity in the 600 block of Beech Avenue, police arrested two Youngstown men, 20 and 31. One was charged with possession of crack cocaine, the other with possession of drugs and obstructing official business.
Drugs: A Boardman man, 29, was pulled over and issued a misdemeanor citation charging him with marijuana possession after police said a small amount was in his pocket. Authorities also learned he was wanted on a probation-violation charge.
March 15
Criminal damaging: Someone tossed a snowball and broke a woman’s dining room window at her East Midlothian Boulevard apartment.
Theft: A driver failed to pay for $48 worth of gasoline before leaving a Shell True North station, 1510 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Criminal damaging: A man in the 400 block of Shields Road reported a broken driver’s-side window on his car. Damage was estimated at $450.
Arrest: Police booked a 44-year-old McDonald man at the Mahoning County Jail on warrants from the township charging him with four counts of passing bad checks and two counts of theft. Last month he wrote bad checks totaling more than $500, the report said.
Drugs: A Warren woman, 18, was taken into custody in the 5000 block of Market Street during an investigation of a suspicious vehicle and charged with possession of drug-abuse instruments when, police said, a syringe, papers for drug purposes and a spoon with residue were in her purse. Also arrested was a man, no information given, wanted on a warrant from New Castle, Pa., charging him with probation violation.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A West Boulevard man said a friend took the accuser’s 2007 Suburban vehicle without permission.
Theft: Two cases of beer were removed from a BP station, 1090 Boardman-Poland Road.
March 16
Attempted burglary: A Sigle Lane man noticed pry marks on a rear window.
Burglary: A man noticed someone had entered his apartment in the 800 block of Cook Avenue before taking a 22-inch gold chain.
Criminal damaging: Someone threw an object at a moving car near Indianola Road and Market Street, damaging a window.
Drugs: Authorities cited a Boardman man, 19, after saying he had a small amount of suspected marijuana in his vehicle that they pulled over.
Assault: A Huntington Drive woman reported a man fled on foot after punching her in the face and head three times during an argument about her business.
Theft: A 30-year-old Wellsville man was charged, accused in the theft of $27 worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart, 1300 Doral Drive.
