McGinnis strikes out 15 in Rondinelli’s 3-1 win


The Class AA League’s Metros scored the deciding run on a hit batter, wild pitch, sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly.

STRUTHERS — Corey McGinnis struck out a Class B League season game-high 15 batters in Rondinelli Tuxedo’s 3-1 win over Roth Brothers at Cene Park.

McGinnis (3-1) outdueled Bob Zanni, allowing just two hits and walking four.

Zanni (1-2) gave up four hits and two earned runs, and had three strikeouts.

Rondinelli scored two runs after two out in the fourth as Corey Hill drove home both runs with a triple. Roth fell to 5-10.

Astro Falcons 4, R J Trucking 1

STRUTHERS — Steve Gruver (2-0) scattered seven hits and struck out 12 to pick up the win for the Falcons (9-6). Shane Wagner hit a pair of singles.

Evan Campbell had a pair of hits for R J Trucking (11-5).

Rondinelli Tuxedo 16, Action 0

STRUTHERS — Rondinelli (15-2) scored 11 runs in the second inning in shutting out Action Physical Therapy in five innings in a game finished from June 13.

Cory Hill had two hits and drove home three runs, Mark Carlozzi allowed two hits and had five strikeouts to pick up the win.

Sean Haywood and Ben Davis had the hits apiece for Action (0-17).

Livi Steel 6, Action Physical Therapy 1

NILES — Jim McConnell struck out 13 batters in a complete game seven-hitter as Livi Steel defeated Action at Wilder Park.

Jae Leeworthy had a triple and a pair of singles while Bobby Herberger hit three singles for Livi (9-7).

Jake Yatsko had three hits for Action.

Class AA League

Youngstown Metros 6, Hickory 5

YOUNGSTOWN — The Metros scored the deciding run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a hit batter, wild pitch, sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly at Pemberton Park.

Joe Iacobucci hit a double and drove in two runs for the Metros. Justin Kulka hit a park of singles for Hickory.

Warren AA League

Mahoning Valley Knights 8, Flex Strut 1

WARREN — Flex Strut led the undefeated Mahoning Valley Knights (9-0) for six at MacGregor Field before two errors and a series of walks and extra base hits tore into Flex for eight runs.

The Knights’ Jeremy Hartman pitched seven innings, striking out eight to pick up the win. Derek Stanton hit a double and single to pace the winners.

Champion Marlins 4, Cleats Club 3

WARREN — The Marlins (7-4) improved their lead over Cleats to two games.

Third baseman Jake Gross hit a triple and single. Brandon Keck came on relief in the third inning to pick up the win.
