Officials investigate first homicide in Columbiana County of 2008

ELKTON - The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred about 4:50 a.m. today in Elkrun Township.

The department received information about a shooting that took place at a residence in the township.

The victim was found dead in a vehicle a short distance from the home, the sheriff’s department said.

The death is this year’s first homicide in Columbiana County, according to Vindicator records.

The sheriff’s office released no additional details this afternoon.

The incident remains under investigation and the victim’s name is being withheld, pending notification of family.

The county prosecutor’s and coroner’s offices are aiding in the investigation.
