We get it, you’re against him

EDITOR:

State Rep. Bob Hagan’s July 29 letter gave reasons why he thinks we shouldn’t vote for John McCain, but at the same time gave no reasons why he thinks we should vote for McCain’s Democratic opponent, Barack Obama. Bob probably couldn’t think of any.

Veterans shouldn’t buy bad rap against John McCain

EDITOR:

My father, Joel A Moffie, is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. My son, Joshua Moffie, and 43 other members from the Vienna Air Reserve Base (all State Rep. Robert Hagan’s constituents) are serving in Kirkuk, Iraq, fighting the war on terror.

They are fighting for many freedoms. One of those freedoms is the right for politicians safe in their incumbency, surrounded by yes-men, and armed with a great paying job/full health care benefits and PERS second to none, to write moronic letters to the editor that state that Sen. John McCain doesn’t care about veterans. Using Hagan’s logic, I would be forced to believe that Sen. Barrack Obama doesn’t care about wounded soldiers because he cut short a trip to visit a military hospital. I don’t believe that all. Hagan is doing what he does best — grandstanding.

Obama out scores McCain on veterans’ report card

EDITOR:

Not this time. I’m not going to let the lying Republican attack machine spin their web of deceit without a fight. The McCain campaign has begun hurling mud and worse at Barack Obama because there is no way McCain can win without the usual Republican Nixon/Rove tactics.

The people are fed up with a Republican recession, endless war in the wrong country (has anybody heard Bush or McCain mention bin Laden or Pakistan lately?), and gas prices that bring a smile only to Dick Cheney’s and Phil Gramm’s fat, smug faces.

Now McCain wants to lie and say that Obama doesn’t care about our troops. This is the same John McCain who was AWOL for the GI Bill of Rights vote in June. McCain opposed Sen. Jim Webb’s bill which passed 75-22. McCain fought against the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, the American Legion, and the national commander of the VFW. They all supported the new GI Bill, but not McCain.

It gets worse. The Disabled Veterans of America gave McCain a dismal 20 percent voting record on veteran’s issues while Obama scored 80 percent. Finally, in a list of key votes, the Vietnam Veterans of America says that McCain “voted against us” 15 times while he only “voted for us” 8 times. On the other hand, Obama “voted for us” (VVA) 12 times and only “voted against us” once.

Sen. Obama is a good, decent man who has supported the troops and voted on the side of veterans. Remember, with the horrible state of the country after eight years of Republican rule with Bush in the White House and McCain in the Senate, the only thing they have left is their lies. Don’t believe them.
