NOTEBOOK Scrappers vs. Jammers

Losing streak: The Scrappers have lost five straight games. With Friday’s loss, the Scrappers are now 7-12 at home. The Jammers have the best record in the New York-Penn League at 25-11, despite going 6-4 in their last 10 games. They are 12-5 against division rivals, which is also best in the league.

Leading the Jammers: Jamestown cleanup hitter Ernie Banks went 3-for-4. with a walk, double, and scored twice and had two RBIs to add to his league-leading 33. In the first inning, he lined the first pitch he saw off of Scrappers starter P.J. Zocchi to left field plating the game’s first run. In the second inning, he singled to center to drive in another run.

Scrappers notes: Zocchi (2-2), a native of Bronx N.Y., who played for Clemson University, was making his team-leading eighth start of the season. It was also his third start at home, where he is 1-2. … Scrappers’ center fielder Juan Valdes has now played 35 games without committing an error. Third baseman Jeremie Tice entered the contest batting a team best .371 at home. Tice went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a double against the Jammers.

On the road: Beginning Monday the Scrappers take to the road for six games that will find them in State College with the Spikes through Wednesday and then they play a three-game series at Jamestown with the Jammers Aug. 31-Sept. 2. They will return home to play three games with the Spikes Aug. 3-4.
