BOARDMAN — Police pursued a 22-year-old Youngstown man from the township into Pennsylvania with authorities in between joining in the chase.

Marvin Howard, of Emerson Place, was arrested about 2:15 a.m. Thursday by township police, charged with fleeing and eluding and operating a vehicle while impaired. He was housed at the Mahoning County jail.

While on patrol on Market Street, township police saw a vehicle traveling recklessly and speeding, a police report said. The officer followed, with lights and siren activated. The SUV turned east onto U.S. Route 224 with police following.

The driver, later identified as Howard, didn’t stop, driving into Poland village and township with officers in those jurisdictions joining the pursuit. He went into Lowellville and into Pennsylvania, where the Boardman officer’s radio communication diminished and he halted the pursuit, the report said.

Speeds reached about 60 mph.

Poland Township police then spotted the SUV westbound on Route 224 near Quarry Road, and Boardman police stopped the vehicle at Clingan Road.

Howard was arrested. His blood-alcohol level tested at 0.103, police said. He was also cited with driving under suspension.
