HOWLAND — A 22-year-old Cortland man was dead at the scene of a 3 a.m. single-vehicle accident on Henn-Hyde Road in Howland on Saturday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Southington Post reported that Steven D. Pettigrew died after he drove off the right side of the road, striking a fire hydrant and a tree.

Pettigrew was wearing a seat belt, the Highway Patrol said.

Pettigrew’s street address was not available Saturday, nor was any information on the cause of the accident. No information was available on whether there was alcohol involved in the crash.

The investigation is continuing.

Pettigrew crashed the 2003 Ford F-350 truck just north of Warren-Sharon Road, a short distance south of two S curves on Henn-Hyde.
