Fitch standout Lunn to enter OATCCC HOF

COLUMBUS — Former Fitch High standout Bob Lunn will be inducted into the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame Friday at the Columbus Hilton at Easton.

Lunn, who lives in California, led the Falcons to state cross country titles in 1971 and 1972 and also won the individual title in 1972, going undefeated that season. He finished second at the state meet in 1971. In track, he won a state title in the two-mile run in 1973 and finished second in 1974.

Lunn led Mount Union to the Division III national cross country title in 1974, finishing fourth individually in the race that season. He then transferred to Bowling Green, where he earned all-Mid American Conference honors.

Also, longtime official Joe DeRosa (Lowellville) will receive the organization’s Distinguished Service Award, meet director Don Groubert (Columbiana) will receive the Sportsmanship Award and Boardman High coach Dave Pavlansky will receive the Fred Dafler Career Coach of the Year.

The association will also recognize the District I coaches of the year: Lowellville’s Bob Ballone (girls track and field), Warren Harding’s Charles Penny (boys track and field), Maplewood’s Dave Deeter (girls cross country) and Pavlansky (boys cross country).
