Salem United Way falls short in fundraising campaign

SALEM — The United Way Services of Northern Columbiana County has fallen short in its campaign for the 2007-08 campaign.

President Roger Hack reported that pledges totaled $190,288, or 71.5 percent of the goal of $266,000.

Some larger donors have not returned their pledges, however. Donations to United Way campaign are still being accepted. No date was given for the formally end the fundraising campaign.

Some 22 agencies rely on United Way for support.

The Salem Community Foundation is offering a 10 percent match to donations if donors make their checks payable to United Way/Salem Community Foundation.

Officers returned to office for another term were Hack, president; Nancy McCoy, first vice president; Beverly Couchie, second vice president; and Jack Hutton, treasurer. Eloise Traina was announced as a new board member.

Newly appointed executive director George W.S. Hays is making plans for the upcoming 2008-09 campaign to be kicked off in early September.
