Welsh society to hold St. David’s Day banquet

YOUNGSTOWN — St. David’s Society of Youngstown will hold it’s 117th annual St. David’s Day banquet at 4 p.m. March 1 at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road. Entertainment will be presented by Eric Thompson, a magician. The cost for the event is $12 for adults, $5 for children 12 to 18, and free for those 11 and under. Wilmington Township league announces events

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. ¬≠— Wilmington Township Civic League is planning these activities for neighborhood residents to participate in during the coming season: March 15, quilt show; March 18, meeting with noted forensic author Jim Fisher, who will discuss his book, “Forensics Under Fire”; April 19, rabies clinic; May 3, garage sale; June 17, scholarship picnic, and Sept. 6, corn roast.

The league also sponsors a senior luncheon on the second Thursday of each month.

League membership dues are $1 per person or $2 per family. Meetings are open to the public.

‘Tuff Times Tea’ planned

NILES — Pleasant Valley Church, 2055 Pleasant Valley Road, Niles, is having a “Tuff Times Tea” from noon to 2 p.m. March 1. This is a seasonal celebration for those going through a tough time. The event will be held in the small sanctuary and will feature lunch, a gift, sharing by Barb Yanik and music by Cathy Bowker and the Young At Heart Bell Choir. Reservations are due Thursday. Spring fashion show at Youngstown Club

YOUNGSTOWN — The public is invited to attend a special ”Spring Fling” fashion show that will be held March 6 at The Youngstown Club, located on the fifth floor of the Commerce Building, 201 E. Commerce St.

The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with cocktails followed at noon by lunch to be ordered from the menu. Meals will range from $8 to $10. The showing of the latest in women’s wear for the upcoming spring season will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Individual tickets and reserved seating for tables of six or eight are available. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the club at (330) 744-2177.

Joann Iaderosa, Fran Cappelli and Mary Jane Karam are serving as chairwomen for the event.

Craft vendors sought for Caleb Cope benefit

SALEM — A day of raging wheels and crafts has been planned for May 4 and will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Quaker City Drag Strip as a benefit for Caleb Cope and his family.

Caleb was injured in a golf-cart accident last July. Proceeds will help provide home renovations for the young man’s bedroom, make the home wheelchair accessible and go toward the purchase of a van with a wheelchair lift.

Divorce recovery workshop scheduled

WARREN — A divorce recovery workshop will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on eight consecutive Monday nights, from March 24 to May 12, at North-Mar Church, 3855 E. Market St.

The workshop is open to anyone who is divorced or separated, regardless of religious faith or church affiliation. The fee will be $30, and each participant will receive a copy of a study guide, “Growing through Divorce.” Preregistration is required by March 17.

Testimonial dinner set

BOARDMAN — The AMVETS Department of Ohio is having a testimonial dinner on March 1 to honor AMVETS National Cmdr. John P. (J.P.) Brown III of Youngstown.

Breakfast is planned

VERNON — Hartford Fire Association and Burghill-Vernon Fire Department will hold a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Burghill-Vernon Fire Station, state Routes 7 and 88, to defray the medical bills of a police officer. Costs are adults, $6; seniors, $5; children 5 to 12, $4; those 4 and under, free.
