Monday, February 11, 2008

SALEM — Atty. Timothy R. Brookes will discuss Depression-era criminal Charles “Pretty Boy” Floyd at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Salem Historical Society, 208 S. Broadway Ave.

Floyd was gunned down near an East Liverpool farm in Columbiana County on October 22, 1934. The talk will center on the last three days of his life and the activities leading up to his death.

Floyd’s life of crime took him into Ohio on several occasions. After the capture and death of John Dillinger, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover named Floyd Public Enemy No. 1 with a reward of $23,000 on his head either dead or alive.

Atty. Brookes is a practicing attorney in East Liverpool. He has served as president of the East Liverpool Historical Society since 1987 and has written numerous historical articles for “Timeline,” published by the Ohio Historical Society.
