Double your pleasure: Jan. schedule dotted by doubleheaders

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown State University men’s and women’s basketball teams will play 11 games at Beeghly Center in January, including four doubleheaders.

The Penguins will host doubleheaders on Jan. 8, 10, 29 and 31 on Rosselli Court.

Jerry Slocum’s men’s squad will battle rival Cleveland State in a special Friday, Jan. 23 game set for a 9 p.m. tip-off. It will be the Horizon League Game of the Week on ESPNU. Fans can stop by participating Wendy’s locations to receive a free ticket voucher.

The busy month also includes two special Dollar Days. The women host league rival Cleveland State on Jan. 17, while the men play host to Akron on Jan. 26. Both games will feature $1 general admission game tickets and special $1 prices on select concession food items.

Kids Fun Day

The second annual Kids’ Basketball Tailgate Fun Day will be Jan. 31 at Stambaugh Stadium.

The event, free and open to children and adults, will take place from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and feature bounce-a-rounds, inflatables, clowns, YSU mascots and other games and activities.

There will also be an apparel sale featuring Penguin uniforms, warm-ups and other authentic YSU gear at 3:30 at Beeghly Center. It will precede the YSU doubleheader at 4:35 p.m. with the women playing Loyola and the men battling Detroit.

Area elementary schools, youth teams and youth group leaders can call (330) 941-7227 for complimentary game tickets for the Jan. 31 event.
