Valparaiso falls to Purdue for fifth straight loss

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — E’Twaun Moore scored 14 points to help No. 10 Purdue beat Valparaiso 59-45 on Sunday for its sixth consecutive victory.

JaJuan Johnson had 10 points, Robbie Hummel had nine points and 14 rebounds and Bobby Riddell added nine points in 21 minutes for the Boilermakers (11-2).

Urule Igbavboa and Jake Diebler each scored 13 points for Valparaiso (3-9), which has lost five in a row.

Akron 77, St. Francis, NY 70

AKRON — Jimmy Conyers scored 17 points and Akron hit 26 free throws, helping the Zips overcome being outscored from the field. St. Francis (3-8) connected on 27 field goals and 10 3-pointers compared to Akron’s 22 field goals and seven 3-pointers. But Akron took 34 free throws to overcome the shooting deficit. Ricky Cadell led St. Francis with 17 points and Nigel Byam and Herman Brice had seven rebounds apiece. Brett McKnight came off the bench to score 13 points while Steve McNees had 12 points for Akron.

Bowling Green 78, E. Illinois 60

BOWLING GREEN — Chris Knight scored 16 points off the bench to lead Bowling Green (6-5), which never trailed in the game and built up a 42-24 lead by halftime.

The Falcons held Eastern Illinois’ leading scorer, Romain Martin, to just five points. Martin entered the game averaging more than 17 points a game.
