TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Sam Young scored 21 points, including two critical baskets in the final 1:51, as No. 3 Pittsburgh overcame 33 percent shooting Sunday to remain undefeated with a 56-48 victory over Florida State.

Young’s tip-in broke a 48-48 tie and he followed with a jump shot with a minute left before Jermaine Dixon closed it out with two layups for the Panthers (12-0), who nearly wasted a 17-0 run in the second half that gave them a 43-36 lead.

Toney Douglas scored 20 points to lead the Seminoles, who shot 29.8 percent.

Florida State (11-2) took its first lead two minutes into the second half on Ryan Reid’s 10-foot jumper in the lane and built its advantage to 34-26.

No. 25 Clemson 91, Miami 72

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — K.C. Rivers scored 28 points and Clemson easily overcame an early 12-point deficit to beat Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Terrence Oglesby added 17 points for the Tigers (12-0, 1-0), who kept pace with No. 3 Pittsburgh for Division I’s best record this season. Pitt stayed perfect by beating Florida State earlier Sunday.

Jack McClinton scored 20 points for Miami (7-3, 0-1), which doomed itself with a season-high 22 turnovers — 12 in the final 11 minutes of the first half, a stretch where the Hurricanes were outscored 29-9 — and by missing 12 of its first 17 free throws.
