Game notes: The Penguins snapped a five-game losing streak on Friday night with a 64-61 victory over High Point, N.C. The Penguins didn’t shoot the ball well, making just 35 percent of their shots. But they played good defense and committed just nine turnovers and outrebounded the Panthers 48-44, behind 14 points and 13 rebounds for senior Jack Liles. Charlotte is 1-2 at home this season, but the 49ers have won two straight road games coming into this contest. They defeated Southern Illinois, 66-64, and Mississippi State, 70-64. Those two wins snapped a six-game losing streak. The series: This will be the first meeting between the Penguins and the 49ers. The Penguins have not fared well against other members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. YSU is 10-29 against teams from the Atlantic 10. Most recently, a 81-75 loss at Duquesne in 2006-07 and 66-58 loss to St. Bonaventure in 2005-06. Next up: The Penguins will return home for their final non-conference game before heading into Horizon League action. They will play host to Lock Haven on Dec. 30 in a 7:05 tip off at Beeghly Center. The Penguins, who are 0-2 in Horizon League play, will get back to league action on Jan. 1 at Detroit in a 1 p.m. tip off.
