Youths steal car after struggle with owner
STAFF REPORT
WARREN — A 21-year-old city man said two young men stole his car from the roadway in front of a friend’s house on Linden Avenue Southeast on Monday night and then fired six to eight shots with a gun as they were leaving.
The gunshots apparently left three holes in a home on Linden Avenue Northeast, just across East Market Street from where the car was stolen, police said. The home-owner reported the damage just a few minutes after the car was stolen.
An officer patrolling the area also reported hearing the shots.
The car’s owner said he was walking to his car about 10:30 p.m. when two youths approached him from the rear of a nearby tavern and ordered him into his vehicle.
The victim refused to get into the car and began to struggle with the two assailants, when someone came out of a nearby house, causing the youths to run toward East Market Street. One of the two got into the victim’s car and drove off. The victim heard gunshots being fired as they left.
Police found the car two blocks east on Charles Avenue Northeast. No one was injured.
