Liberty Vs. Niles
Lakeview Vs. Campbell
STAFF REPORT
Week 2 of the high school football season was marked by some wide margins.
Boardman continued its early-season success by traveling to Toledo and returning with a 56-17 victory over Start High.
Liberty’s Fitzgerald Toussaint rambled for 209 yards and scored four touchdowns, including one covering 99 yards, as the Leopards defeated Niles, 48-9.
Poland stayed unbeaten with an impressive 31-3 victory over Parma Normandy.
McDonald, Lakeview, Crestview and West Branch were some other teams that also won by big margins.
The best game of the night was Springfield’s 18-15 win over Youngstown Christian that was decided by a field goal by Bryan Visingardi with less than a minute remaining.
That victory gave the Tigers a 2-0 record, matching their win total from all of last season.
And Leetonia can be credited with an upset, defeating Columbiana, 19-6, in a terrific nondivisional game in the Inter Tri-County League.
There’s some more good matchups throughout today, with Mooney and Howland facing tough out-of-state opponents at the Herbstreit Classic at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, and Ursuline taking on Bethlehem Catholic at Lock Haven University.
Also, Hubbard will battle Warren JFK at Mollenkopf Stadium and Mathews travels to Cleveland Central Catholic for an afternoon game.
