Mickelson closed with a 5-under 66, pulling away from Woods on the front nine and holding him off down the stretch for his third and final victory of the year. Woods, paired with Mickelson, finished with a 67. Last week: Vijay Singh won The Barclays for a record fourth time, matching Sergio Garcia’s long birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff and winning with a birdie on the second extra hole. Kevin Sutherland was eliminated on the first playoff hole at Ridgewood. Singh, also the Firestone winner, earned 11,000 FedEx Cup points in the playoff opener to take the lead with 109,500 — 5,125 ahead of second-place Garcia.

Kite has 10 career Champions Tour victories.

Last year: Marc Warren became the first Scottish winner in tournament history, birdieing the second hole of a playoff with Simon Wakefield. Last week: Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke won the KLM Open to improve his Ryder Cup hopes, shooting 68-64-66-66 for a four-stroke victory in the Netherlands. Clarke won the BMW Asian Open in April for his first title in five years.
