NFL ROUNDUP News and notes
Bengals: Quarterback Carson Palmer will skip Cincinnati’s last preseason game, resting his broken nose while running back Rudi Johnson makes his first — and what he thinks could be his last — appearance in a Bengals uniform.
Giants: Wide receiver David Tyree was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform reserve list Tuesday, meaning the player who made a game-saving catch in the Super Bowl won’t be making any for at least the first six weeks of the season. The Giants also waived receiver Michael Jennings and waived safety Terrance Stringer from the injured list. Safety Craig Dahl was waived injured Monday. Receiver D.J. Hall and safety Miguel Scott were also waived. New York signed linebacker James Terry (Youngstown State) and acquired receiver Marcus Monk on waivers from Chicago. Also, seven-time Pro Bowler Michael Strahan is staying retired. Giants general manager Jerry Reese asked the 36-year-old Strahan to reconsider his retirement Monday, just 48 hours after the Super Bowl champions lost Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora for the season to a knee injury in the preseason game against the New York Jets. Strahan needed just about a day to turn down an offer to return for a 16th season with what could have been an $8 million contract.
Texans: Cornerback Dunta Robinson was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list. Robinson has been recovering from a severe right knee injury he suffered Nov. 4, and being placed on the PUP list means he must sit out at least the first six weeks of the regular season. The Texans also cut receiver Tim Carter and offensive lineman Mark Fenton, and placed receiver Harry Williams and offensive tackle Scott Jackson on injured reserve.
Patriots: Guard Stephen Neal was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform reserve list and backup tackle Ryan O’Callaghan was placed on the injured reserve list. The team reduced its roster to 75 players by releasing fullback Kyle Eckel, cornerback Jason Webster and offensive lineman Ryan Wendell.
Colts: Kick returner T.J. Rushing and backup tight end Zac Herold were placed on injured reserve, ending their seasons. Rushing and Herold both injured knees in Sunday night’s 20-7 loss to Buffalo. Indy also released kicker Adam Crossett, linebacker Marcus Richardson and running back Clifton Dawson.
Eagles: Cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list and kicker Richmond McGee was released.
