Mahoning Valley (28-37) entered the game with a 19-0 mark when leading an opponent after the eighth inning.

NILES — Tim Fedroff has only played in 13 games for Mahoning Valley after getting drafted in the seventh round out of North Carolina and signing his contract late, yet the center fielder has made a great impact in his short stay with the Scrappers.

Monday night Fedroff had four hits in the Scrappers’ win over State College and Tuesday night the left-handed hitting outfielder scored the winning run to give the Scrappers an 8-7 win over the Batavia Muckdogs at Eastwood Field.

Fedroff led off the ninth inning with a walk off Batavia reliever Jason Buursma after two Scrappers relievers blew a four-run lead in the top of the inning.

Lonnie Chisenhall, who blasted a thunderous home run in the sixth inning, followed with a walk and Jeremie Tice hit a long fly to center field which allowed Fedroff to alertly race to third base with the potential game-winning run.

Brock Simpson was walked to load the bases and catcher Michael Valadez hit a fly ball to left field that was deep enough for Fedroff to score the game winner.

“We were just trying to get some good swings on the ball,” said Fedroff who was surprised the bullpen couldn’t hold the four run lead. “That’s not like us to give up runs late in the game.”

The Scrappers (28-37) had entered the game with a 19-0 mark when they were leading an opponent after the eighth inning.

Fedroff has 20 hits in his 13 games and is batting a hefty .392 on the season.

“We’re swinging the bats pretty well,” Fedroff said. “We were looking to get some baserunners on in that last inning and we were fortunate to do that.”

With the Scrappers holding a comfortable 7-3 heading into the ninth inning, Daniel Morales walked three of the first four batters to load the bases and that led manager Travis Fryman to pull him in favor of Carlos Arias.

Arias promptly delivered up a single, double and sacrifice fly to the next three Muckdog hitters to allow Batavia to tie the game.

The Scrappers started quickly with the bats following up on Monday night’s 15-hit attack.

Mahoning Valley scored seven runs on 10 hits in the first six innings to open up a big league.

Robbie Alcombrack led the attack with three hits while Tice and Simpson added two each.

The Scrappers scored two runs in the second inning on a walk and a single an error and an RBI hit by Alcombrack.

Mahoning Valley also tallied three more runs in the third on RBI singles by Fedroff and Simpson and a Batavia error before adding solo runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Cord Phelps drove in Alcombrack with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Chisenhall hit his fifth homer in the sixth inning.

Mahoning Valley got a strong outing from starting pitcher Russell Young (4-3, 3.81 ERA).

The lefty from Dartmouth pitched five solid innings of two-hit ball and struck out four batters.
