AM-Care Inc. of Akron tops a field of seven bidders for the Mahoning County Nursing Home in Kirk Road, offering $3.1 million. Bids were as low as $1.5 million and AM-Care’s bid was the only one to exceed the home’s appraised value of $2.9 million.
August 25, 1968: At least 200 Youngstown district Democrats are on their way to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, traveling by train, airplane and car.
A 23-year-old Youngstown man is wounded while fleeing from a Niles police officer in the city’s business district after stealing a watch and diamond ring from the Doubet Jewelry store at 12 S. Main St.
Marjorie L. Starr, formerly a high school teacher in Boardman and Austintown, is named principal of the Betty Jane Oral School for the Deaf in Tiffin, Ohio.
August 25, 1958: A six-day rainless spell in Youngstown is broken by a 1.6 inch downpour, washing out the Women’s Youngstown District Golf Association Tournament and the Mill Creek Men’s Championship.
Louis Troiani, 77, of 232 Emerald St. narrowly escapes injury after an out of control car hits his front porch, feet from where he was sitting and careens into a neighbor’s home. The driver, Louise Yotsnukis, told police the gas pedal on her car jammed. No charges were filed.
