Man injured Sunday in North Side shooting spree

Crandall - 400 block

YOUNGSTOWN — A large shooting scene was found in the 400 block of Crandall Avenue on the North Side around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

The victim, Darry B. Woods, 18, of West Dennick Avenue had been shot several times in the back and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center by private car before police arrived. His condition was not immediately available. Police towed a Chevrolet Malibu from the hospital that had been shot at.

A 1994 Buick Century parked on Crandall had its rear window shot out and bullet holes in the trunk lid and roof above the driver’s seat. A witness said the car’s driver left it parked before the shooting.

Four handgun shell casings were found in the street in front of 447 Crandall and two rifle shell casings on the sidewalk. Two rifle casings were found in the front yard of 447 Crandall and three more in the devil strip. Four handgun casings lay in the street between 439 and 443 Crandall along with a large amount of broken auto glass, police said.
