Man charged in hit-and-run accident in New Wilmington, Pa.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — A Lowellville man was charged in a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Pa. Route 208 and New Castle Street.

David Wade Williamson, 20, was westbound Thursday on Route 208 when he suddenly made a left turn into the path of an eastbound pickup truck driven by Chad Morrow of Grove City, said New Wilmington police.

The truck broadsided the car Williamson was driving, police said.

Neither driver was injured.

Williamson fled south on Pa. Route 158, police said. A witness followed him to Robinson Road in Neshannock Township, where Neshannock police stopped him. New Wilmington police came and arrested him after it was confirmed he was the hit-and-run driver and had failed field sobriety tests, police said.

Williamson was charged today with driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to stop, failure to give information and render aid, failure to yield to an oncoming vehicle, failure to signal before turning, and failure to provide immediate notice of an accident to police.

He was arraigned before District Magistrate Scott McGrath in New Castle and placed in Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.

His preliminary hearing is set for Thursday in Lawrence County Central Court.
