MCDONALD Village council

Village officials handled these matters Wednesday night:

Heard a presentation from Chris Tolnar of Seidler Engineering of Liberty regarding a 2009 Roadway Resurfacing Project. In a related move, officials voted to prepare paperwork to apply for an Ohio Public Works Commission grant that would pay about 55 percent of the estimated $380,000 project to pave roughly 2 1‚Ñ2 miles of village roads. Council plans to submit a pre-application Friday and should hear from the OPWC in October, Mayor Glenn W. Holmes noted.

Had an emergency reading of an ordinance to amend traffic flow around Roosevelt Elementary School. Officials voted to ban parking on Sixth Street between McDonald and Iowa avenues and prohibit parking on Seventh Street and Iowa Avenue between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Too many vehicles parked along those roads have created gridlock and other headaches, and the changes are crucial to make it easier for safety vehicles to reach the elementary and high school and surrounding areas, Councilman Peter D. Sudol explained. Police Chief Lou Ronghi said he has talked to residents on Sixth and Iowa about the traffic changes during school hours.
