Events to help injured woman

staff report

BOARDMAN— Local businesses are organizing a fundraiser for Rachel Widomski, who was left paralyzed from the waist down after she was hit by a car in May.

The benefit is being organized by True Customs, of Youngstown, and Crux Motorsports, of Canfield. Her brother, David, is president of Crux Motorsports.

A car show will be held Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., and a bowling event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Camelot Lanes, 628 Boardman-Canfield Road in Boardman.

Tickets to the event are available at the door. Entry to the car show is $10 and will feature a Chinese Auction, 50/50 raffle, disc jockey and trophies. The bowling event is $10 for shoe rental and unlimited bowling during the allotted times.

The 28-year-old, a bartender in Columbus, was injured when she and another woman chased a patron who failed to pay his bill into the parking lot.

The driver was charged with two counts of felonious assault. Widomski spent several months in a Columbus hospital, but her mother, Cheryl, said she has since been released and is undergoing physical therapy to learn how to live normally in her wheelchair.

Her mother said her daughter intends to return to school and finish her fine arts degree at Ohio State University as soon as she is able.

All proceeds for the event go to the Rachel Widomski Medical Trust at Huntington Bank. Those wishing to make other contributions may do so at any Huntington Bank.
