NILES — The Niles Rotary Club will have a dinner in honor of Anthony Lariccia of Boardman on Wednesday at Ciminero’s Banquet Center, 123 Main Street.
Lariccia has donated $10 million to various organizations in the Mahoning Valley, including Tod Children’s Hospital, the YMCA and Youngstown State University. He has also provided financial support to various communities, including Struthers, Austintown, Boardman, and most recently, Niles, where his $100,000 donation aided in repairs to the high school football stadium.
“We want to recognize Mr. Lariccia for his continued support to the Mahoning Valley and honor him for setting the standard that we can all aspire to by giving back to our communities,” said Dr. Larry Giovinazzo of the Niles Rotary Club.
The evening will include hor d’oeuvres, dinner and entertainment, followed by a presentation to Lariccia. A $20-per-ticket donation is requested. To order tickets, contact Giovinazzo at (330) 256-8662.
Final film rescheduled
YOUNGSTOWN — “American Graffiti,” the final film in the city’s free outdoor movies series at Chevrolet Centre, has been rescheduled to Monday at 9 p.m. It was originally scheduled for Monday, but had to be moved back due to problems with the projection equipment, according to Phil Kidd, director of downtown events.
Before “American Graffiti,” a 38-minute movie by local filmmaker Art Byrd, titled “Emotional Reload,” will be shown.
Man arrested in robbery
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Police have made an arrest in a bank robbery last week.
James Strayer, 30, whose last known address was John Street, is charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and two firearms violations, police said. He was to be taken to the Lawrence County jail, police said.
Police arrested Strayer on Friday.
The First Commonwealth Bank on North Liberty Street was robbed around 11:20 a.m. Thursday.
Women’s celebration
WARREN — The annual Women’s Equality Day Celebration will commence at noon Aug. 26 at the Women’s Park on Mahoning Avenue downtown. It is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Trumbull County, the Upton Association and Warren Civic League.
The event marks the 88th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which gives women the right to vote and participate in government.
Speakers are Michael O’Brien, Warren’s mayor; Victoria Giovangnoli, superintendent of the Trumbull County Educational Service Center; and Elizabeth Clark, who will talk about Lou Hoover, wife of President Herbert Hoover.
Musical entertainment will be provided, and a reception will follow at the nearby Kinsman House. Refreshments will be provided.
City cleanup this weekend
YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s litter control and recycling division is having a citywide cleanup Saturday.
Participants are asked to meet at the Chevrolet Centre at 8:30 a.m. for a rally and then head to various locations in the city to clean them up between 9 a.m. and noon.

Police investigate brick
BOARDMAN — Police are investigating a cloth-wrapped brick that was thrown through a garage window— with a note bearing a racial slur against Asians.
Police were called to Buena Vista Avenue about 4 a.m. Monday on a report of fireworks being set off. When they arrived they learned of the brick. No one was hurt.
Fowler car, tractor show
FOWLER — The Fowler Township Historical Society will have an antique car and tractor show and Chinese auction from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the David and Melissa Butts House Museum, state Routes 193 and 305.
Admission is free, and there’s no entrance fee for cars and tractor owners.
There will be a raffle at 3 p.m., and music will be provided by Wildwood Express. The auction will include an organ, wedding gown and $5,000 in gift certificates and merchandise.
Safety and health fair
ROGERS — The Rogers Community Auction and Open Air Market’s 12th annual Public Safety Health Fair will be from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and feature area health and public safety agencies offering free medical screenings and blood pressure testing.
US SARR (United States Search And Rescue, Recovery) team members will provide handouts and information on the prevention of missing people and displays related to homeland defense. Local fire and emergency medical services agencies will also be present.

Waterline discussion
LIBERTY — Township trustees will have a special public meeting for property owners of Pleasant Valley Road at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the township administration building, 1315 Churchill Hubbard Road, to discuss the possibility of installing waterlines along that road.
