‘No swimming’ signs stolen; boy drowns

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Police say someone stole the “no swimming” signs near a creek-fed pool in northwestern Pennsylvania where a 9-year-old boy has drowned.

Authorities have yet to release the name of the boy who drowned at Frontier Park in Erie Monday afternoon. The boy’s friends say he couldn’t swim but jumped into a 15-foot deep pool that is fed by a creek running through the park.

Police chief Steve Franklin says the pool and the creek are posted as “no swimming areas” but residents say that prohibition is often ignored.

And the chief says the signs are regularly stolen. The chief says the signs were up as recently as two weeks ago before they were stolen again.
