DETROIT — Melvin Mora and Luke Scott had two home runs apiece for Baltimore. Mora had five hits and a career-high six RBIs, while Scott had three hits and four RBIs to pace a 22-hit attack.

Yankees 15, Royals 6

NEW YORK — Jason Giambi hit a grand slam and Alex Rodriguez sent a three-run homer bouncing into Monument Park as New York battered Brian Bannister. Cody Ransom added a two-run homer and Xavier Nady also went deep for the Yankees.

Blue Jays 15, Red Sox 4

BOSTON — Alex Rios went 5-for-6 and matched a club record with four doubles and Toronto knocked Boston ace Josh Beckett out after 21‚Ñ3 innings. Adam Lind had a solo homer and four RBIs and John McDonald added three hits and three RBIs for the Blue Jays.

Twins 11, Mariners 8

MINNEAPOLIS — Jason Kubel had four hits and scored four runs and Joe Nathan got four outs for his 33rd save for Minnesota. Justin Morneau homered and drove in two runs and Randy Ruiz hit a two-run single for the Twins.

White Sox 13, Athletics 1

OAKLAND, Calif. — Carlos Quentin hit his 34th homer and drove in four runs, and Alexei Ramirez had a grand slam as Chicago won a series in Oakland for the first time in eight years. Javier Vazquez (10-10) allowed four hits in eight innings to help the White Sox win consecutive games in Oakland for the first time since August 2000.

Rays 7, Rangers 4

ARLINGTON, Texas — B.J. Upton homered and drove in three runs in his return from a benching and Scott Kazmir allowed two runs in six innings for Tampa Bay. Kazmir (9-6) earned his first win since July 21, giving up four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks to help the Rays improve to 20-9 since the All-Star break.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Astros 3, Diamondbacks 0

HOUSTON — Roy Oswalt allowed one hit in eight innings and struck out 10, outpitching Randy Johnson. Ty Wigginton hit a three-run homer off Johnson in the first inning, sending the Astros to their ninth victory in 11 games.

Cubs 9, Marlins 2

MIAMI — Two-run doubles by Alfonso Soriano and Aramis Ramirez and a three-run double by Reed Johnson sparked an eight-run seventh that rallied Chicago past Florida. Ryan Dempster (14-5) struck out 10 batters in six innings to win for the fourth time in six starts. He gave up two runs, the sixth straight game in which he has allowed two runs or fewer.

Dodgers 7, Brewers 5

LOS ANGELES — Andre Ethier hit his second homer of the game in the ninth inning and Los Angeles recovered to beat Milwaukee moments after blowing a four-run lead. The Dodgers also got homers from Manny Ramirez and Matt Kemp to move into a first-place tie with Arizona in the NL West.

Reds 7, Cardinals 3

CINCINNATI — A revived Edinson Volquez pitched seven shutout innings and traded up-and-in fastballs with counterpart Kyle Lohse, helping Cincinnati end St. Louis’ four-game winning streak. Brandon Phillips hit a three-run homer in the seventh off Jaime Garcia.

Giants 3, Braves 1

ATLANTA — Tim Lincecum pitched 72‚Ñ3 strong innings and closer Brian Wilson got San Francisco out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth. Showing no bad effects from the bruised knee that forced him out of his last start, Lincecum (13-3) allowed three hits, one run and four walks while striking out 10 — five with runners in scoring position.

Rockies 7, Nationals 2

WASHINGTON — Ian Stewart and Seth Smith hit three-run homers and Aaron Cook struggled through five innings for his 15th victory as Colorado handed Washington its season-high 10th straight loss. Brad Hawpe added a solo homer for Colorado, which swept the weekend series and has won four of five overall.

Phillies 2, Padres 1

SAN DIEGO — Cole Hamels pitched eight sharp innings to snap a seven-start winless skid and Pat Burrell hit a go-ahead homer for Philadelphia. Hamels (10-8) limited the Padres to one run on seven hits as he won for the first time since a 4-1 victory at Atlanta July 3. Burrell hit his 29th homer of the season, a solo shot with an out in the sixth that proved to be the difference.
