FOOD SALES AND DINNERS | Sit-down and takeout events planned

THURSDAY

• Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman Poland Road, will have takeout dinners of baked stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and green beans available from 4 to 6 p.m. (or until sold out). The cost is $6. There is no need to preorder or get out of the car.

FRIDAY

• American Legion Post 560, 103 Twelfth St., Campbell, will sponsor a fish and shrimp fry from noon to 6 p.m. at the post home. The menu will feature fresh ocean perch or shrimp, macaroni and cheese or french fries, coleslaw or haluski, bread and coffee. Meals are $7 for adults and $4 for children. Dining-room or takeout service will be offered, and desserts and refreshments also will be available. • Holy Trinity Church, 250 Bridge St., Struthers, will sell potato, cabbage and lekvar pirogi. Orders will be taken from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon Friday at (330) 755-0064. No walk-in orders will be accepted. Orders may be picked up from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday. Patrons are asked to provide containers.

• Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church will serve fish dinners from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the church hall, 53 Laird Ave., Youngstown. The menu will consist of baked or fried Icelandic cod; sides of Spanish rice, haluski, macaroni and cheese, french fries or string beans (choose two); coleslaw or applesauce; and bread and butter, coffee or tea. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Dessert will be an additional $1.50. Containers will be provided for takeouts. Orders will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at (330) 792-1005.

• Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall, 526 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown, will be selling pirogi. The cost is $5 a dozen, and orders will be taken from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday and Friday at (330) 746-9528. Orders should be placed early and are to be picked up between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday. Hot lunches will be available beginning at 11 a.m. Friday. A mini garage sale will be held in conjunction with the event.

• St. Anthony Church, 1125 Turin Ave., Youngstown, will sell pizza and other Italian treats. Orders may be placed by calling (330) 746-9577 from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. and must be picked up by 1 p.m. Friday.

• Potato, prune and kraut pirogi will be sold at St. Joseph the Provider Church, 633 Porter Ave., Campbell. Cost is $4.50 a dozen. Phone orders should be made beginning at 8 a.m. at (330) 755-1316, and orders can be picked up beginning at noon. Patrons are asked to provide their own containers. No walk-in orders will be available.

• St. Luke Church, 5235 South Ave., Boardman, will bake Italian-style red and white pizza. Phone orders will be accepted at (330) 788-0025 between 9 a.m. and noon only. Pickup will be until 1 p.m. Price is $5.50 for red and $4.50 for white.

• St. Paul the Apostle Church, Main Street, New Middletown, will sell potato, sweet cabbage and cottage cheese pirogi. Orders can be called to (330) 542-3525 from 7 to 11 a.m. Thursday and Friday. No walk-in orders will be accepted. Pickup will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

• St. Stanislaus Church, 430 Williamson Ave., Youngstown, will sell potato, kraut and cottage cheese pirogi. The cost is $4.50 a dozen. Advance orders will be taken at (330) 747-3024 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday and 8 to 11 a.m. Friday, based upon availability. Lunches will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Patrons are asked to provide their own containers and use the side entrance.

• Tod Avenue United Methodist Church, 155 Tod Ave. N.W., Warren, will sell all-you-can-eat fish dinners from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. The meal includes deep-fried ocean perch, home-fried potatoes, coleslaw, bread, homemade desserts and beverage. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children. Meat loaf is also available. Meals can be delivered to the Tod and Buckeye high-rise apartments if the church is called before 1 p.m. at (330) 393-3859. This will be the final fish dinner until Oct. 3.

SATURDAY

• North Jackson Police Department will serve spaghetti dinners from 3 to 8 p.m. at Our Lady of Lebanon National Shrine, 2759 N. Lipkey Road. Dinners include bread, salad, dessert and beverage. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and $5 for senior citizens. Carryouts will be available, and there will be a 50-50 raffle. Proceeds will be used for emergency medical equipment for the department.

• Salem Masonic Temple, 788 E. State St., will serve a steak fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Meals include a 10-to-12-ounce steak, baked potato, green beans, salad, dessert and beverage. Carryouts will be available, and there is a handicapped accessible elevator. No reservations are required. Tickets are $10. SUNDAY

• Capt. Charles M. Marino Post 3, Italian-American War Veterans, 113 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, will serve spaghetti dinners from noon to 5 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults and $3.50 for children 6 to 10. Those 5 and under may eat for free. Containers can be purchased for carryouts, or patrons may provide their own.

• A chicken paprikash dinner will be served by Circle of Serbian Sisters of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 54 Laird Ave., Youngstown, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Serbian Memorial Hall. The menu will include dumplings, salad, dessert and coffee. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Containers will be provided for takeout orders. • St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown, will sponsor a spaghetti dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church social hall as a benefit for Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County. Dinners include salad, bread, dessert and beverage. The cost is $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children 8 and under. Carryouts will be available. • Struthers United Methodist Church, 33 Sexton St., will serve creamed chicken over biscuits dinners from noon to 2 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door and are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Carryouts will be available.

• VFW Triangle Post 2799 Auxiliary, 3161 E. South Range Road, New Springfield, will serve breakfasts of eggs, sausage or ham, hash browns, pancakes, freedom toast, toast, and coffee or tea from 8 a.m. to noon. Meals are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10. A la carte will also be offered.

TAKING ORDERS

• Lydia Circle of Girard First United Methodist Church is taking orders for individual-size ham loaves. The cost is $2 per loaf. Orders can be placed through May 7 by contacting the church office at (330) 545-4361. Pickup will be between 1 and 4 p.m. May 12.

UPCOMING

• Boar’s Head Ladies of St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown, will sponsor a chicken dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7 at the church. The menu will include salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, bread and butter, pie and beverage. Cost is $6.50, and containers will be provided for takeout orders. No reservations are necessary. • Leetonia Mennonite Church, just off state Route 11 in Leetonia, is inviting members of the community to a free chicken and biscuit dinner to be held at 6 p.m. May 7.

• Southington United Methodist Church, state Route 395 at 534, will serve chicken dinners from 3:30 to 6 p.m. May 7. The menu includes a quarter chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce, coleslaw and dessert. The cost for adults is $7.50. Meals of chicken tenders for children 4 through 10 are $4. • VFW Triangle Post 2799 Auxiliary, 3161 E. South Range Road, New Springfield, will serve spaghetti dinners with meatballs, salad, bread and coffee or tea from 4 to 7 p.m. May 8. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

• Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department will have a steak fry from 4 to 9 p.m. May 10 at Wheatland American Legion on Cherry Street, Wheatland, Pa., as a water-hauling fundraiser. The cost is $15. There will be raffles and a Chinese auction. For more information, call (724) 347-7060.
