YOUNGSTOWN — Katie Rogner , a member of the Youngstown State University women’s golf team, will forever be in the university’s history books as she becomes the first player in school history to be selected Player of the Year as well as Newcomer of the Year in the Horizon League.

Only a freshman Rogner wasted no time leaving her mark on the program. This season she has had the lowest score in every event the Penguins competed in. She also won medalist honors in last her two events including the Horizon League Championships.

Joining Rogner on the All Horizon League Team were Butler golfers Lauren Showers and Paige McCracken, Loyola’s Lucy McGovern, and Detroit’s Mandi Dupuis,

Rachel McHenry, and Ashley Hamilton.

Also taking home season honors was Coach Roseann Schwartz. Coach Schwartz was named the Horizon League women’s golf coach of the year.

Rogner and the Penguins wrapped up the season with a second place finish in the Horizon League Championships, but will look to carry the momentum into next fall.
