TRUMBULL COUNTY |MetroPark Day

A free day will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at four MetroPark sites throughout the county to promote awareness of the parks system. Visitors to any of the parks can win Mahoning Valley Scrapper tickets, bicycle helmets, a MetroParks shirt or rain gauge. Refreshments are free. The sites are:

Canoe City on North Leavitt Road, off West Market Street in Leavittsburg next to the dam, will host half-hour canoe and kayak rides, weather permitting. Canoe City is a picnic area with fishing access, paved walking paths and horseshoe pits.

Clarence Darrow MetroPark on Educational Highway across from the Kent State Trumbull campus in Champion Township will host disc golf demonstrations with help from the local disc golf association.

Foster MetroPark, located at East River and County Line roads, just west of state Route 534 in Newton Township. It will feature a corn-hole game and horseshoes, along with river access for canoeing and fishing.

Western Reserve Greenway at Sunside Trailhead, located on state Route 305 off Mahoning Avenue in Champion. There will be bicycle safety checks with help from Lakeview Bicycle and the Friends of the Western Reserve Greenway.
