LOUIE TODAY: Sen. Meshel, whole-grain cooking and addiction services

Thursday, April 3, 2008

Former Ohio State Senator, Harry Meshel returns to rock and roll with Louie, Vindy.com's news radio partner.

Sen. Meshel's unique perspectives on politics — local, state and national — are always interesting and entertaining. Louie says, if we're lucky, he'll get the senator to sing again!

Meshel entered electoral politics in 1970, when he ran for a seat in the Ohio State Senate. In 1971, he was elected to the 33rd District seat, then was re-elected five times. He became the Senate's majority whip and chaired the powerful Senate Finance Committee.

During his five terms, he was credited with helping to secure almost $150 million in capital improvements for Youngstown State University. He also secured more than $160 million in grants and loans from the Ohio Department of Development for local economic development projects and worked to create the Northeastern Universities College of Medicine, the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University , the Wright State University School of Professional psychology, and other programs.

Louie also will talk whole-grain cooking and eating the Betty Crocker folks. Their new cookbook is Betty Crocker Whole Grains.

And he'll discuss addiction treatment/services with Larry Moliterno, Boardman Township trustee and CEO of Meridian Services, Inc., a behavioral healthcare organization.

Moliterno has been named to the board of directors of the Ohio Council of Behavioral Healthcare Providers.
